Fall Cravings

All this rainy weather in New York is reminding us that we're at summer's end and creeping into fall.  This summer has been full of high highs and low lows but the fall's new crop of trends promises to more than make up for it. Here are some things on my wishlist.  Emphasis on the Wish.

I've passed these Stubbs & Wootton slippers in the window numerous times and I just love them. Perfect with jeans, tee-shirt and a blazer or with shorts (denim or black wool) and tights.   Stubbs & Wootton is the perpetually preppy brand and can appear a bit stuffy, but with this clever saying they add an ironic element to each outfit, perfect for the sassy dresser. Known anyone who fits that bill?

I'm a J-Crew girl through and through so it pleases me to no end that their new collection is off the wall, featuring more affordable options on the trends I'm all about.  I want sequins, feathers, velvet and tweed in this season that's all about texture and with the right pairings you can make it all work for day or night.  These sequined bloomers (currently $98 and sure to be on sale by the time it's appropriate to wear said bloomers) are on the top of my list.

I love the idea of wearing that sequined top you wear out at night to work with a classic plaid shirt and some man-tailored shorts or a great pencil skirt. Look what I finagled in there: shoes I shall have you! To continue with the menswear theme I love these booties on men so I'm pumped J-Crew made a pair for women to save me the embarrassment of having to buy men's shoes and look even more flat footed than I already am.
The colors for fall is undoubtably red and camel.  I spent, eh, 45 minutes?, give or take, crafting a  photoshop spread on the two colors but me being me and blogger being blogger, you'll never see it.  Bring in the Polyvore Set.

I love the crisp feel of the camel especially in oversized, modern shapes. Red is just vibrant and sensual. Really wow 'em and wear the two colors together. The seventies is back in a big way (thank the high heavens above) and that's large in part because of Chloe's current collection.

Nothing says fall more than boots and although equestrian/preppy chic has a strong showing, I'm going to end with my dream item, these amazing Oscar de la Renta boots.
They keep me going when the sky is grey.

GLLAAADDIIATOORRR

Anyone knows me knows my obsession with Elizabeth Taylor and how I've come to terms with the fact that she is my inevitable future. I'm fine with it. We'll today I went on a haj to Bloomingdales to do some much needed spring shopping and struck out left and right. I was looking for a printed romper, a colorful dress that didn't make look like a wall full of graffiti and of course... glaadiiaatoorrr sandals. NADA. I couldn't give my money away. This sad fact led me back to the computer to shop online with the other agoraphobics. Here are some of the best bests for your GLLADDDIAATOORR needs

Top picks are hands down this pair from UGG.
They come a few different colors and most importantly are COMFORTABLE.  Squishy soles mean you can walk all over the place.  A friend of mine got them as a gift and she put them on right away and didn't take them off.  At $150 the price is great for the amount of wear you will get out of them.

These from Tory Burch are $130 because they are Jelly, but can be really great to wear to the beach and after without destroying them.  Also available in bright red.
These are the ones I am not so secretly lusting after.  They are classic, I like the color and can be dresses up or down easily.  You would think finding less expensive ones like this wouldn't be a monumental task, but apparently IT IS.  I loved Sam Edelman's collection of gladiators from last season, but this season they are all bejeweled and crazy.

These from Modern Vintage are really cool and a little bit more of a sophisticated take on the trendy gladiator shape.  I also really like these sandals from Pour La Victoire.

I wish any of these were at the store but the shoe department was pretty flat (pun intended).  In any case I'm off to help blind kids cross the street.

Make Your Own Shoes!!!

AHH!! When my friend Page sent this to me around three I felt as though the rain had finally stopped.  A website that allows you to design your own shoes?  I mean don't get me wrong its not like these puppies are louboutins or something, but at least you can put to rest that epic battle of searching the four corners to find the right pair of shoes.  The site, appropriately named Shoes of Prey, gives you a slew of heels and flats alike to customize so you can finally get the pair that's perfect for you.  Here are some shots from their gallery:
Now, there are clearly a lot of ways to go wrong here and make something that looks like your prepping for your new job on West Side highway, but you really can put your own personal spin on some new and emerging trends, or just make a really nice pair of shoes you'll have for a while.  You gotta hope that at prices from $180, for flats, to up to $280, for heels, that they wont kill to walk in.

The above is just examples of some ones I was playing around with, warning its addicting.  Another thing I really liked was that you were able to change the heel height (although it doesn't show you on the picture, which is kind of misleading).  It totally worth a look at and would make a great gift. THANKS PAGE.

Christian Siriano To Do A Line For Payless

It's BOGO gone wild for this Holiday season with Project Runway winner Christian Siriano's collection for payless. I have to say the collection is more or less "fierce", staying true to the fashion renegade's dramatic aesthetic, featuring zippers, glitter and chains.

I like these gold flats with the zipper front for $29.99 and these black patent and gold heels for $34.99.

Other than that the heels on some of these are a little weird and as much as I like to say bogo, I don't really know if I want a bogo on blisters. What do you think? Love it or leave it? Prices range from $29.99-$49.99.

Jack Rogers Launches Website

I mean, there really isn't too much to say about Jack Rogers; they are a staple to every summer closet and now, they are offering new exclusives through their brand new authorized website.
The verdict is still out for me on these flats, they certainly are a far cry from the day's where Jackie-O made them famous stepping out from church in the 60's.
I like the website, my one quam is where the mother are my red patent navajos I've been looking for everywhere?!

Manolo Blahnik: A Bitch to Behold

His parts may be different but you have to give credit where credit is due. The legendary shoe maker said:

"I hate celebrities. All those pointless girls — I won't name names, but you know who I mean. They are 'famous.' Ridiculous. I like women with style: Actresses like Uma Thurman, icons like Audrey Hepburn. I like women with style to wear my shoes."

Blahnik has been outspoken about other popular culture such as Sex and the City calling it "sick" and not in a sick way, in the cough, cold, vomski kind of way. Although you gotta love him for being blunt and outspoken, I have to admit these "pointless" celebrities and movies like Sex and the City have made him a house hold name. Well, a park avenue house hold name.

Fugly, yet functional

In the great debate between fashion and function, fashion most always looses out.  I mean I would like to think I am one of fashion's most loyal proponents but truth be told I carry big bags out at night not because I think it looks better than a clutch but because it holds my flip-flops in them.  Uggs (which many a clever fellow likes to make a pun of) aint cute... but every person and their mother has a pair.  Crocs... I'm looking at mine right now (I do a lot of gardening). And now... send in the fitflop which promises to tone your saddlebags while you walk to the refrigerator.  I mean, they don't look pretty, but do they do what they promise?  My mother swears by them, but then again this is a woman who once exclaimed "Tweak my tities" when she found a parking spot so I take her opinion with a grain salt.  In my ever ongoing battle to not have the ass of Big Momma, I'm tempted to try them... but that might just be one fugly footwear too many.  Thoughts? Feelings? Anyone alive out there?  Bueller?

One thing I am sure of... I'll never wear these.
